What is CIIE, and why visit?
The China International Import Expo (CIIE) is an import-focused exhibition: overseas businesses showcase products, technologies and services to the Chinese market. It is different from a general sightseeing event or a fair focused on sourcing Chinese exports. The business exhibition covers food and agricultural products, consumer goods, services, industry and technology, automobiles and smart mobility, and medical equipment and healthcare products.
For overseas brands and exporters, the visit can support market research, product positioning and conversations with prospective buyers or distributors. For procurement teams, it offers a concentrated setting to compare international suppliers and new products. For business delegations, it can combine exhibition visits with pre-arranged meetings and an introduction to Shanghai.
The practical value comes from preparation: identify relevant sectors and exhibitors, arrange appointments where possible, and record follow-up actions. Useful outcomes might include a shortlist of suppliers, feedback on market fit or new business contacts. A visit does not itself guarantee orders, distribution agreements or market entry.
Exhibition scope: Official 2026 exhibitor invitation. The suggested business outcomes are planning guidance, not guaranteed results.
CIIE 2026 visitor registration: which route fits you?
Choose your visitor category before booking your expo days. The exhibition runs 5–10 November, but overseas professional visitor badges cover 6–10 November, while individual visitors may select 8, 9 or 10 November. Registration closes at the end of 20 October, Beijing time; payment closes at the end of 23 October.
Overseas professional visitors
For business visits, register through the organiser's professional visitor route. Badge service fees are CNY 200 for 6–10 November, or CNY 100 for 8–10 November. Approved registration and the relevant badge determine access.
Individual visitors
For a personal visit outside a trade delegation, select 8, 9 or 10 November. The service fee is CNY 50 per person per day. Daily quotas are limited; applicants must be at least 14. Regular on-site registration is unavailable.
Can foreign visitors receive an invitation letter?
The individual route does not issue invitation letters. Visitors needing one should check the professional / institutional route. A letter requires a separate application and review; it does not guarantee a visa or entry into China.
How do overseas visitors receive their badge?
Check the delivery instructions for your selected category before departure. Individual badges require a valid mainland Chinese delivery address. Registration and payment alone do not guarantee admission: the organiser reviews personal information before issuing a badge. Keep your registered details, badge and travel document consistent.

Build your Shanghai stay around the business agenda
Stay & move
Choose hotels around your exhibition and meeting locations. Coordinate airport arrivals, group transfers and realistic travel buffers.
Meet & communicate
Brief your language requirements early. Plan interpreting support, meeting transport and group coordination around confirmed appointments.
Extend the visit
Leave room for Shanghai dining, cultural visits or a Jiangnan extension once your exhibition schedule is settled.
Where is the venue, and how do you get there?
The National Exhibition and Convention Center is on the western side of Shanghai, in the Hongqiao area near the airport and railway hub. It is not beside the Bund or in the historic city centre. Plan your hotel and meeting locations with that geography in mind.
Metro Lines 2 and 17 serve the venue. Hongqiao Railway Station connects with both lines; passengers arriving at Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2 can use Line 2. Pudong Airport is across the city to the east: Line 2 provides a rail connection, while a pre-arranged transfer may suit a delegation carrying luggage. Allow a generous arrival buffer rather than scheduling an important meeting immediately after landing.
For exhibition days, choose the entrance and drop-off point according to your badge, hall and the organiser's current notice. Transfers should include time for traffic, walking and security checks. Final 2026 traffic restrictions and special services must be checked nearer the event.
Transport basis: NECC official transport guide. Do not rely on an old station name, fixed journey-time estimate or last year's special shuttle arrangements.
Where should you stay?
Venue / Hongqiao
Best for several full exhibition days, early starts and airport or rail connections. Check the actual walking route or transfer arrangement; a hotel labelled “Hongqiao” is not necessarily next to your entrance.
Central Shanghai
Jing'an, People's Square or the Nanjing Road area can suit city meetings, restaurants and sightseeing. Choose a convenient metro connection and accept the longer expo commute.
A split stay
Stay near Hongqiao for exhibition days, then move centrally for leisure. It can reduce repeated commuting, but adds a hotel change and luggage transfer.
Compare live rates, cancellation terms, room availability and breakfast times before booking. November exhibition demand can affect availability; no hotel or rate is included until confirmed in the quotation.
How can you combine CIIE with sightseeing?
This is a flexible planning example, not a fixed departure. Select exhibition days that match your approved visitor access and business priorities.
- Day 1 — Arrive and settle in. Airport or rail pickup, hotel check-in and a short briefing. Keep the evening light.
- Day 2 — Focused exhibition visit. Visit your priority halls and confirmed appointments. Keep the evening available for a business dinner.
- Day 3 — Exhibition and follow-up. Use a second expo day for remaining exhibitors, comparisons and notes. Add an off-site meeting only when confirmed.
- Day 4 — Shanghai city discovery. Consider the Bund, Yu Garden area and selected neighbourhood walks, with local dining. Attractions and ticket availability are checked during itinerary design.
- Day 5 — Jiangnan extension or more business time. Choose a Suzhou gardens and old-town visit, a water-town day, or an extra exhibition / meeting day. Rail, transfers and reservations depend on the chosen route.
- Day 6 — Departure. Allow time for packing and transfer to the correct airport or railway station.
For individual visitors, a possible pattern is arrival on 7 November, expo visits on 8–9 November, Shanghai sightseeing on 10 November, a Jiangnan excursion on 11 November and departure on 12 November. Badge approval and transport availability still need confirmation.
What could the travel package include?
A quotation can combine hotel accommodation, airport and exhibition transfers, local coordination, interpreting for agreed time slots, selected meals, a Shanghai sightseeing day and an optional Jiangnan extension. Specify each inclusion and exclusion in the final proposal. Expo registration or badges, international flights, visa arrangements and meeting access require their own confirmation; they are not automatically included.
